Gratitude Gems: Home Is…

Welcome to Gratitude Gems, where I show a little appreciation for the good things in my life!

We’re moving at the end of this week! I can’t believe how the month has flown by. I’m quite excited for us to get into the new place and make a new home, particularly because we visited a greenhouse yesterday and now I’m itching to see how many plants I can incorporate into the outdoor spaces once the warm weather stabilizes…But you know, a home is many things.  Moving also means that we’ll be leaving the comforts of our temporary home – my brother’s family’s home – which has been more than we could have asked for in our month of homelessness. When we knew we’d need a place to crash for the month of April, we assumed we’d hop from a couple of different places to minimize our impact on others. Then M&K offered to keep us for the whole month, and we just couldn’t refuse. They have a guest bedroom and a full bathroom in their basement, which meant we’d be tucked away in a corner and would cause less disruption than if we were staying on couches, and we’d be afforded some privacy. Plus they liked the fact that we could help out with the kidlets, particularly for their 10th wedding anniversary weekend away. Win-win, as they say.So we moved in… and one month later we’re all still friends and we haven’t been disowned and the kiddos still like us, so I think it went well, all-in-all.  We recognize that having guests for a month is no small undertaking, and while we’ve helped with groceries, cooking, cleaning, and corralling the kidlings, we still caused a disturbance in their (family) force… eating more food and causing more noise and invading their communal spaces, oh my!  We fully expect that they’ll breathe a sigh of relief when they finally have their house to themselves again. As for us, we’ll miss the good company and getting to see their growing kids so often (plus the cable/PVR).You know, there’s something to be said about people who take you in, no hesitation and no questions asked, and provide the help you need when you need it most. And my brother and his generous wife did just that. For that, we are so incredibly thankful.

  1. We’re going to miss you guys! The only “disturbance” you guys have caused here has been a wonderful one, and more than welcome. Except for Tavis’s snoring. 😛
Please find some excuse to stay here again in the future.
